FIRST FOREST DIVISION CERTIFIED BY FSC
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international not for-profit, multi-stakeholder organisation established in 1993 to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. Its main tools for achieving this are standard setting, independent certification and labeling of forest products. This offers customers around the world the ability to choose products from socially and environmentally responsible forestry. FSC is a global forestry certification system established for forests and forest products. This voluntary mechanism can be regarded as one of the more interesting initiatives of the last decade to promote better forest management. Many alternative national and regional forest certification bodies also exist around the globe.NMBA as part of its Bamboo based activity has taken up a project to develop and standardize packages of practices of bamboo resource management, which meet product and market requirements, as per international standards/certification norms.
NMBA is pleased to announce that Bhamragarh Forest Division (BFD) has been certified (effective from 12 December 2012 ) by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as Well-Managed Forest in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council’s Principles & Criteria, as elaborated by the FCP Final Interim Standard for Forest Management Certificate in India under the FSC (V 1.1)For the following products: Dendrocalamus strictus ( Bamboo) Tectona grandis (Teak), Terminalia arjuna( Arjun), Bombax ceiba (Semal), Pterocarpusmarsupium ( Bija), Dalbergia sissoo ( Sheesham), Roundwood and Fuel wood
Bhamragarh Forest Division (BFD) is the largest forest divisions in Maharashtra State. The scope of certificate covers 3,78,170 hectare out of which commercial working of bamboos has been prescribed under the working plans 2,38,912 hac.
