Development of low cost technology packages for processing shoot at community/ cluster level
Simple processing and packaging technologies for bamboo shoot have been developed by ERG Bangalore, intended to provide value addition and income gneeration options at the community and tiny enterprise level.
The shoots are packed in flexible nylon based pouches with no preservatives; the process provides shelf life ranging from 7 days (in fresh water) and 21 days (in brine). A tiny unit can operate at capacities ranging from 30 - 100 Kg per day, for sale in local and vicinity markets, or to larger scale processors of bamboo shoots.
This practical and uncomplicated technology package has been succesfully demonstrated by a joint training team of NMBA and ERG at 24 locations. Extremely well received, there is a growing demand for this technology package.
