Development, prototyping, testing and validation for commercial and common use of line-balanced configurations of machinery sets of primary processing machines.

So far, most processing of bamboo has been done only with traditional and simple hand tools. Imported machinery has tended to be expensive, and often unsuited for Indian bamboo, which is strong, and has a high silica content in its outer layer, leading to the faster wear-out of cutting tools.

Machinery manufacturers, with specialist inputs from engineering consultants in Bangalore, developed initial prototypes?and subjected them to testing. Design modifications were then carried out, and the machinery subjected to further testing. This process was repeated till the needed efficiency levels, measured in terms of power consumption, yield, wastage minimization, cost and quality were achieved.? The machines are intended to carry out a wide range of operations, converting bamboo culms to strips, slivers and sticks of varying dimensions. These products would be used in manufacture of boards, by craftspersons, and for consumer products like agarbattis.

These machines are now available in the market, a major step forward in developing the bamboo sector. The machinery manufacturers – NS Machine Tools, Ludhiana, Garnet Tools, Dewas and Sugga Engineering in Delhi are now ready to supply sets of the machines.

?

The Mission has worked with machinery manufacturers in Ludhiana, Dewas and Delhi to? develop ranges of efficient, sturdy and low-cost tooling and processing machinery, suited to Indian conditions and species, to reduce drudgery, improve productivity and minimise wastage.?
